What is peer mediation?
Peer mediation is when two or more people have a conflict and to prevent a fight or a argument from getting out of hand you ask an older person to help you, but first the person has to know what the problem is and then that person will tell you the ground rules which are: no interrupting, no name calling or put downs, be as honest as you can, and agree to solve the problem.
What do peer mediators do for the students of NAM?
A peer mediator help students solve their problem by helping them talk to that person and share your feelings with that person.
At the end of solving the problem the peer mediators must
ask the people if the problem is solved and if it isn't
then you take the people to and adult and let them handle
it. But if the problem is solved then you tell them to shake hands and tell them not to discuss the problem with other classmates. Peer mediation is used to prevent fights and arguments from getting out of hand. We use this method at NAM and things seem to be going well.
How do you become a peer mediator?
Students are chosen by
classroom teachers.
